After Practicing the 420 for almost forty years, I've come to recognize the stages of the 420 and the best way to manage that experience, at least from my perspective. First comes the awareness of the 420. Back in the day we used to just call it, "let's meet after school;" or, "during break;" or, "out in the lot," but all those euphemisms were supplanted by "420." The moniker became a cultural phenomenon that found its way into movies and literature around the globe. But the essence of what the 420 is can only arise with awareness. Once cognizant of the concept, one comes to practice of the art. At first the target is some nebulous time that creeps up and jaunts right by you if you're not paying attention. Just saying, 421 is some diminished aspect of the 420, only to be enjoyed by the Johnny-come-lately's. This belated affair is a chronic problem for the supplicants of the art. But, practice makes perfect, or at least that's what I've heard. So, honing down the nebula is next. We pay attention. The use of automated timers and alarms might be good for the initiates, but internalizing the 420 is the goal here. The circadian clock must be utilized in order to bring out the biological transcendence necessary to hear the harmony of the barbershop-quartet-buzz in our ears and its resounding bliss. Perseverance does pay off and with anticipation of the approaching time; I saw the numbers preparing to turn too. With alacrity, I took up the designated position and sparked a blaze to alight the desired substance. Upon completion with music in my ears, I was satisfied to know of my timely success but soon discovered the desired time approaching on another device. Wash -- Rinse -- Repeat. Now, fully focused on the results, I soon surmised the quantum leap that lay before me. The 420, a single thought, can exist simultaneously in two different times. Further analysis, and practice, soon lead me to the conclusion that it would only take fourteen hundred and thirty-eight more clocks to reach a perpetual state of bliss. So, I continued to practice. Further focus found its irony...the final phase of the 420 revealed itself to me. If a single thought can exist in the multiple times, then the more clocks that I would collect, the more I would diminish the need for clocks at all.
