Recognized as the fastest growing human tumor, Burkitt lymphoma is associated with impaired immunity and is rapidly fatal if left untreated. However, intensive chemotherapy can achieve long term survival in more than half the people with Burkitt lymphoma. Eric Njuguna is my daughter classmate at Aga Khan Academy Year 9. The young 15 year old fell repeatedly ill for the past few months and sought treatment at our leading hospitals in Kenya. However the doctors were not able to identify the problem easily and therefore was eventually hospitalized at Kenyatta hospital where they were then referred to India as treatment. The Medical Cover at this point had already been exhausted and unfortunately upon arrival in India they also realized that he had picked up Meningitis and was therefore urgently treated for it which cost them the little money they had.
