The growing set of state laws designed to get around federal laws protecting the rights of women. Notoriously: the laws that have closed clinics that provide pre-natal care for women by imposing administrative requirements that cannot be met; laws that attempt to shame women who have decided to have an abortion by insisting that they have forced medical procedures; laws that would have doctors lie to women seeking an abortion; laws that chip away at the number of weeks after which an abortion would be illegal; etc.

Jim Crow laws in the south provided a framework for racism and the oppression of African Americans to continue after Reconstruction. Notoriously: interracial marriage was illegal; it was illegal to argue in print in favor or interracial marriage; it was illegal to run a restaurant or a hotel for both whites and black; schools were segregated; books used at a white school could not be interchanged with books used at a black school; whites could use the public library, but blacks were given a separate wing of the library and could not access the main collection; etc.
