Respect for others is a hallmark of the British Army: it comes from the duty to put others first and means that there is no place for prejudice or favouritism. Respect for others goes both up and down the chain of command and sideways among peers. The Army’s recruiting motto ‘Be the Best’ can only have meaning if all members of it have equality of treatment and opportunity. Respect for others extends to the treatment of all human beings, especially the victims of conflict.
