Good Morning America Host Gains Support From Twitter Users As Battle With MDS Begins

Fans of 'Good Morning America' anchorwoman Robin Roberts (@RobinRoberts) began rallying on the Twitterverse in August 30, 2012, expressing support as the 51-year-old cancer survivor began her medical leave to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Roberts suffers from MDS, or myelodysplastic syndrome, a very rare bone marrow disorder. The emotional magnitude of her medical leave is also somehow increased by the fact that her mother, Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts, had just passed away. The 88-year-old died in Gulfport, Mississippi on the night of August 30.

The hashtag #TeamRobin amassed strong exposure in the US since its first appearance on the morning show's official Twitter account, which posted these messages:

As a show of support and rally of strength, Twitter users, the regular Joes, to celebrities, to media personalities alike, poured out their messages in the form of tweets with the #TeamRobin hashtag appended. Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres' (@TheEllenShow) tweet, for instance, garnered 1,773 retweets?to date and 650 favorites. DeGeneres has at least 13.3 million followers. Roberts is on temporary leave from 'Good Morning America'. It remains unknown when exactly she is set to return.
