Two of the most unique and anticipated times of the year are Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Although not official Thanksgiving holidays, these two have become very important to shoppers shoppers in the United States -- because they mean discounts on retail like no other.
Hence, the expected trending status of hashtags #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday as the Twitterverse search, post and update on the best deals online at the moment.
The #BlackFriday shopping event was created in 2005 and happens just after Thanksgiving Day. It marks the start of Christmas season and has since become a tradition among shoppers and retailers. A lot of big brands and shops celebration the start of the holiday season by offering a variety of promos and big sales to customers from electronics to clothes and food -- you name it.
This year, the hashtag #BlackFriday was again trending nicely on Twitter as early shoppers share their experiences and photos while camping out of stores and getting on long lines to wait for the doors to open. Since its launch, Black Friday has become the busiest shopping day of the year in the US.
#CyberMonday is the virtual counterpart of Black Friday, which was also introduced in 2005. It features online sales and promos for people who prefer to buy things on the Internet. Cyber Monday is held on the Monday following Thanksgiving. The hashtag #CyberMonday2013 has been created this year to help online shoppers look for the best offers online, as well as let people share their recent purchases.
Here's how the two fared against each other this year in terms of tweets and impressions. As we can see #BlackFriday got the better engagement numbers with 1.27 million tweets in a span of a week, while #CyberMonday (although still delivering astounding numbers) totalled almost 350,000 tweets.

In terms of impressions, or how far the hashtag has gone online in terms of exposure, #BlackFriday covered more ground, totalling over 9 million impressions in the last seven days.
