Mela Captures the Essence of Daily Living for iPhone Users

May 9, 2014
melaUsers of iPhone can use and enjoy Mela, a social video app based on hashtags. The app is optimized for iPhone 5 and runs on iOS 7. It is also available for free. The app allows crowdsharing for people to incorporate videos from different users then transform these into creative series. You can put other user?s videos in your own creation to tell a dynamic story. Social media users can also watch video clips using similar tags, thereby letting them play one after the next in one continuous video. Such is referred to as a ?Mela?. Mela is generally a video-sharing app where short videos can be recorded using the app. The videos are then put together to comprise a single one lasting several minutes. Sharon Sheinberg and Meir Ben-Shitrit founded Mela together in 2013. The app is based in Israel and started after its creators realized the need for people taking photos to impart their true experience at the time they captured the images. Users should add at least three hashtags to the video clip then stitch it with others available on the social media platform. Up to six hashtags can be tagged and every clip can be incorporated in six Melas. Compared to traditional formats, the use of hashtag links uses a more unique approach. The app has a built-in camera where people can start recording and tapping the images and scenes they want to put together. The just need to tap the part they wish to feature in the continuous video to make a 2.5-second clip. mela1 According to CEO Sheinberg, people can look into other people?s experiences by crowdsharing related content. It is a unique approach compared to simply allowing people to have a peek into their own lives. The app was made so people can record and keep the most essential parts of their daily lives. She said, ?We also want users from all over the world to become exposed to others experiencing similar moments from different angles and points of view.? Using Mela requires users to record and shoot a video lasting 15 seconds. They can then pick 2.5-second clips from each video to get the best scenes and images then start tagging it using a number of hashtags. Other users can then stitch their own recordings to Mela via the same hashtag. As a result, people will get a single uniform video stream, playing for several minutes depending on the number of clips put together. The videos can be shared between contacts or a network of family and friends.
