The latest political punch line across social media is direct toward the First Lady of the United States. It appeared many students, or people with pictures of their lunch, were sarcastically saying #ThanksMichelleObama for how disgusting or sad their lunch had become. The First Lady made a promise to unite schools across the country under at least one condition: a healthy lifestyle. This included?a focus on?Physical Education activities, cleanliness in hygiene, and the most important: diet. These new changes brought out plenty of talk across social media, but in a more sarcastic way that expected.
The trend appeared to peak mostly on Friday the 21st but still lingered into the weekend. Surely there will be more during the upcoming week as students encounter the hashtag online before going into their next lunch on a school day. The #ThanksMichelleObama hashtag also sparked a few other related political hashtags.
Those who treated the hashtag as a more serious method of thanking the First Lady used hashtags such as #healthylunch or #UniteBlue (as most supporters of the mainly Democrat movement appreciated the new implements). It wasn't uncommon to see other sarcastic hashtags associated with #ThanksMichelleObama, especially from the students who had received these "unbearable" lunches.
Still others who are advocates for a healthier and?more nutritional diet tried to reassure these angry students that eating healthy does not have to be as gross as the food that is forced upon them.
These Tweeters wanted to ensure students that their voices will be heard and they could make a difference in deciding for themselves what they want. This hashtag is one of many to surface over the last few years that debates the necessity of these new rules. Thanks to social media, important political figures will be able to directly interact with these students in an effort to improve the quality that these students claim they need.
