Twitter recently revealed that it conducts at least one experiment on a daily basis to improve the social media experience it offers users.
The secret was unveiled in a blog post in which the social media site announced that it is rare for them not to release a single experiment at least in a day to boost features and look for existing and potential problems.
Experiments are usually conducted using particular groups of individuals. There are over 200 million active Twitter users so the tests are not obvious to the majority unless they observe closely.
For example, social media users may find new features or test runs that disappear after several hours or days. Many of these are done, visible only to a limited number of users. Tests are constantly done and operated using a sophisticated framework created by Twitter engineers. Mobile tests are more frequently done since many Twitter fans use mobile devices to explore the platform.
Twitter showed one feature, the people button, which is also an experiment to help users find relevant accounts that they may be interested in. Many of the new features tested may be done on mobile devices initially to cater to the growing customer base.
Twitter admitted, however, that many of the features that only a limited number of users get to see may never be launched. These merely helps experts and engineers make sound decisions on keeping the user experience simple and fulfilling.
All these are conducted by Twitter to improve the product as well as continue to get more information on how to enhance user experience. Other objectives include enhancing communication between individuals, assisting users to discover things of interest and finding other relevant users. User protection is one of the main goals of the social media platform so several tests focusing on the subject are also done each week.
