#PSILoveYou, Pawn Stars and an Ambiguous Trend

July 22, 2013
So, #PSILoveYou is listed as a trend in the United States today and everyone is wondering whether it is actually linked to something romantic. It's not. While a lot of Twitter users are going on ahead and posting 140-character posts about love and relationships, #PSILoveYou the promoted trend actually means "Pawn Stars I Love You" to refer to the hit TV show on @HistoryAsia titled "Pawn Stars." The hashtag represents an ongoing online promotion that reveals the three Asian cities where "Pawn Stars" leads Rick and Corey Harrison will be visiting in August. As a backgrounder, the show is all about a family run pawnshop in Las Vegas featuring three generations of males from the Harrison family. This year, they are bringing their A-game to Asia and the channel is aggressively marketing this debut on the Internet with the promoted hashtag. The show is currently on its 9th Season. ps1 ps2 Does it work? Well, for a start, #PSILoveYou is not exactly a unique hashtag that can specifically pertain to the marketing strategy, so measuring how effective it is and how far it's reached may be tricky. When we run the hashtag on analytics, we see that in the past week it has reached 3,900 tweets and made 4.2 million impressions. HOWEVER, when we run the same to find out what exact posts are being made with it, we see that a good number is totally unrelated to the purpose for which it was intended. What do you think? Is the #PSILoveYou hashtag the right fit for the promo? Tell us in the comments! .
