The move may be what people would likely see in a movie. Twitter recently hired famous hacker Charlie Miller (@0xcharlie) to become part of its security team. Miller has created a reputation for being a top-notch hacker who successfully bypassed the security measures of Apple devices, particularly the iPhone.

He earned a prize in 2008 for hacking the ultrathin MacBook Air in two minutes. He was also able to hack Safari. A year before that, he hacked the iPhone through its web browser. Miller himself tweeted the news and joined the company on September 18.

He holds the position of Software Engineer. His other duties and responsibilities were not announced yet.

Charlie Miller has established himself as an expert in the field through the years. He introduced a method of sharing denial-of-service hacks on iPhones using text messaging. He highlighted the different flaws and security problems in iOS and also made Instastock, an application for hijacking iPhones and iPads that was eventually removed from the developer platform. He was also able to hack other devices like Nokia and Samsung phones and Android units. The genius is not so surprising, however, as Miller used to work with the NSA or the US National Security Agency. The legendary hacker will be working with another popular member of the Twitter family. Moxie Marlinspike (@moxie) is head of the team where Miller will be assigned.

Marlinspike is co-founder of Whisper Systems and part of the Institute For Disruptive Studies. He operated on several services and methods, including a cloud-based WPA hacking method. Marlinspike is the new director of Twitter?s product security and will be helping Miller adjust to the new environment.

Twitter has been showing a lot of interest on Miller since a year ago. Although his full line of work is undisclosed, there are reports that he might be tasked as a penetration tester to look for and repair flaws and other potential problems in security. The Accuvant consultant will be a good addition to the company and users can expect more privacy and extra protection with Miller?s contributions in the next several months.
