Twitter Axes @Anywhere and Hovercard

September 18, 2012
Twitter has been making adjustments to enhance sales and publicity, especially on the part of online advertisers. The developer platform, @Anywhere, is one of the features that will be eliminated from the list come December. Websites that intend to include links that lead to Twitter will have to rely on Twitter itself for website widgets as a substitute. The announcement is sure to disappoint many online users who have been depending on the facility to include several features like Tweet Boxes and Follow Buttons directed straight to their own websites. December 6, 2012 is the official date of shutdown. There are, however, several products that will strengthen the Twitter for Websites brand and make it more convenient for web developers and social media enthusiasts to bring in the needed traffic and features. According to blogger Jason Costa, the latest widgets include enhanced characteristics that will make the site more dynamic and interactive for users. He said: "We've been growing the family of products that make up Twitter for Websites, including, for example, the launch of the ability to embed timelines on a website. As a result, we are sunsetting @Anywhere and focusing on continuing to build out Twitter for Websites." Some of things that netizens have been used to on @Anywhere will be enhanced, such as the tweet box, the sign-in, follow and linking a @username. Hovercards will not be included in the enhanced features list. Another thing that online users will like on Twitter is the embeddable timeline which allows them to conveniently include any Twitter timeline to their respective websites using a single code. @Anywhere was known for many original features. When users browse a site including @Anywhere, individuals and brands with their own Twitter accounts will also be highlighted via a hyperlink. If users mouse over the link, a small box or hovercard will be presented complete with the information on Twitter as well as the latest tweet. Using only a few Javascript lines, @Anywhere can be implemented by different websites. Twitter profiles can also be integrated well by publishers so followers can find and read these immediately. Here's what Twitter users have to say about this latest move.
