Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) marked his presence at Part 1 of the 2012 presidential #debates with a Big Bird shout-out which immediately spread throughout the Internet.
There were two huge moments for Romney during the recent presidential debate on October 3, 2012.
Within the first 40 minutes of the exchange, Romney looked straight at Jim Lehrer, moderator and co-founder of PBS, and then said that he would reduce subsidies for PBS, regardless of his fondness of Big Bird.
The words immediately spread throughout social media sites. According to Twitter, 'PBS' and 'Big Bird' garnered 17,000 tweets per minute.
What?s truly interesting, however, is that the 17,000 tweets were actually more than the over 14,000 tweets per minute garnered by Romney during his acceptance speech at the GOP Convention.
Netizens continued to tweet and retweet the lines with a touch of humor.
Romney was undoubtedly trying to make a point, but do you think he was right to include Big Bird in the discussion? Let us know in the comments!
