Space Needle Uses #TopThis Design Contest To Celebrate Golden Year

September 2, 2012
The Space Needle (@Space_Needle), the Pacific Northwest's hottest attraction, has launched a design competition on Twitter, the winner of which will have his or her design featured atop the famous landmark for six months. The campaign carries the promotional hashtag #topthis, which general public and even the contestants may use to promote their own submissions. The design may not be visible from the ground, but hovering over on a plane will certainly make for a breathtaking experience -- well, depending on who joins and who wins.

Golden Celebration On The Roof

The 'Top Off Our 50th' campaign is in celebration of the Needle's 50th year since the World's Fair closed down in 1962. Since then, the attraction has been a staple must-see among tourists visiting the area, recording an average of traffic of 1,000,000 visitors annually. The top five designs gathered until September 20, 2012 will be subjected to the scrutiny of a panel of local judges and will be featured on the campaign's official website and Facebook page for a public vote. The winner will have the design placed on the Needle from October 21, 2012, or for half a year until it celebrates its 51st anniversary in April 21, 2013, plus other nifty prizes. To join, interested parties should download the Space Needle design template and follow instructions posted on the website.

Note:

Hashtags.org visited the #topthis hashtag on Twitter and found a wide mix of usages of the tag, so you might not see the Space Needle promos right away. Best to head straight over to the Space Needle Twitter page for updates and other details.
