The Associated Press recently took to Twitter to launch its advertising arm on January 7, 2013.
The company is setting its sights on online advertising to boost income.
The news group uses the handle @ap and currently has 1.5 million users on the social media micro-blogging site.
The approach involves the use of sponsored tweets wherein companies can advertise their products, events and other news at a fee.
Samsung Electronics was the first client to try the new platform and proceeded to showcase its upcoming activities at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show, due on the second week of January in Last Vegas. Read the full release.
It was not indicated how much Samsung paid for being the first sponsored tweet client.
The Associated Press or AP is one of the leading sources of news and updates on the internet. The new advertising approach aims to be differentiated from news and current information provided regularly by the account.
The sponsored tweet also comes with a hashtag #SamsungCES, which, as of this writing, has the following activity.

The move was inspired by other popular groups and celebrities on Twitter who banked on their huge following to advertise and promote products and events online.
According to Twitter, the move by AP is still according to the rules and policies of the website. They have no problems with the strategy that the news organization recently came up with, as well as its bonds with other huge corporations around the globe.
It is important for advertisers and Twitter users to make their posts distinctive so that followers can immediately identify, whether it?s an informative or casual tweet or an advertisement.
