On June 2, 2014, renowned and upcoming designers were given credit for their contributions to American fashion in 2013. The CFDA or Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards handed out awards to special individuals who have shared their talent to create womenswear, menswear and accessories. Others who were successful in creative vision and journalism were also awarded while others received lifetime achievement awards.
A number of big names appeared at the event. The hashtag #CFDAAWARDS?was created where fans and social media users can talk about their top picks as well as the stars who donned the most beautiful and outrageous outfits during the evening event.
R&B songstress Rihanna was given the fashion icon award. She was also deemed to be the one with the most jaw-dropping outfit. She wore a dress by Adam Selman with a fur stole. The material was transparent so it was easy to see her breasts, buttocks and thighs. Only the fur covered her nether region.
Other fans also talked about their favourite dresses for the evening such as the 1960s-inspired Michael Kors dress worn by Blake Lively and the Donna Karan dress worn by Heidi Klum.
Many social media users used the hashtag #CFDAAWARDS to congratulate the nominees and winners of the event. There were photos of Rihanna?s almost naked dress with some humorous comments. People were also delighted to see Anna Wintour and Marion Cotillard present the awards.
Seeing the related hashtags, it seems that Rihanna almost singlehandedly caused the trend.

The hashtag #CFDAAWARDS is a good example of a successful event hashtag which effectively draws people with the same interest together. Those who watch events live or on television can refer to the hashtag to share their thoughts and comments as well as compare notes with others. Companies and organizers use event hashtags more frequently to ensure that they have a wider reach and target the right audience.
