The #knowtheocean hashtag is both a statement that speaks to Ocean Network Canada's (ONC) broad mission and vision to "discover the ocean and understand the planet" and a call to action that invites people to get to #knowtheocean. It can be used for ONC content and non-ONC content that informs our broad science and non-science audiences about ocean literacy, marine life and ocean science (data, engineering, innovation). It is also used to engage people on our growing understanding of the importance of ocean knowledge in helping science and society understand our changing planet and climate change.

The #OceanSense hashtag is used on social media (primarily Twitter and Instagram) to share interesting data highlights from Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) sensors. This can include graphs, pictures, videos, sounds, anomalies and analyses directly related to any of the sensors on ONC’s deep ocean and community observatories. #OceanSense can be used to foster conversation about these data highlights including interesting facts, data or site comparisons and questions.
