The first law of traffic reporting: Death or injury to anybody outside of a vehicle indicates the absence of anybody inside the vehicle. This hashtag is used as a criticism of crash & collision reporting when human agency is removed and the action is attributed solely to the vehicle as though it was unoccupied and acted alone.

Inspired by the hashtag CrashNotAccident, this tag advocates for using the active voice in car crash reporting and ending headlines and tweets which transfer agency from the driver to the vehicle, as though it was unoccupied and acted alone. DriverNotCar proponents are using it, for example, to hashtag "A pedestrian was struck by a car" tweets. Instead, we favor "A driver struck a pedestrian."
