Century for Global Health Literacy: International Health Literacy Association

Representatives from health literacy groups around the world will come together to address the question of how to support global health literacy and the forming of an International Health Literacy Association (IHLA). This meeting is designed to unite diverse fields of study, organizations, and interest groups in promoting local, regional, and global health literate communities, organizations and societies.
The meeting will:
1. Explore opportunities for global collaboration to improve health literacy and prepare health professionals serving communities in need.
2. Announce efforts to date to establish an International Health Literacy Association to unite and support people and groups around the world working to improve health literacy.

The Health Literacy Leadership Institute Fellows Forum takes place on day five of the Health Literacy Leadership Institute (Friday, June 17, 2017) and is open to participants beyond those registered for the one week Institute. This one-day event invites past HLLI participants (and others) to join present HLLI Fellows in exploring a topic of interest to the field though facilitated engagement and open discussion. This year’s Fellows Forum looks at health literacy through a social justice framework. Applying a Social Justice Framework to Health Literacy Research and Practice is an experiential workshop that will challenge participants to break down oppressive systems to create health literate and inclusive healthcare environments.
